I quite like a friendly game of scrabble; not too rulesy, with frequent dictionary checking and competition the least important thing.
What I don’t like is people playing by the official rules, putting down loads of words whose meaning they have no idea of (that they have learned off for the sake of scrabble), and then denying me any possibility of checking up what these words mean in a dictionary, merely using their stupid fucking scrabble word-list book that doesn’t give any definitions, making me have to write down lists of words that I don’t understand and look them up.
Pedantic scrabble players of the world: you guys can kiss my ass.
They did protest quite vehemently when I, slightly disspirited with my “scrabble experience”, gave up playing for points half way through that I was ruining the game for them. And maybe I was.
I think we have rather irreconcilable enjoyments of the Good Game. And that’s a shame. But yeah, so what.
