Oh if only I could produce a tasty muffin: ripe, moist, and full-bodied; how sweet that would be!

Muffins, baking & all that…

I had quite a good, but totally unfruitful weekend this last weekend what’s just passed. I decided that I was going to be all about the baking. Yes sir! I was to learn how to bake!

Oh! And what fun I might have had indeed, if only things had turned out somehow better!

My first efforts involved a simple brown loaf. Worked out fine. I didn’t terribly like it, but, well, there you go.

Secondly, I turned to MUFFINS. Now, everyone here knows that I do quite like muffins I’m sure. And the list of ingredients and instructions for baking in mon recipe book didn’t make it look too hard.

And it all seemed to be going so well!

Until, well…actually I’ll just post a photograph of one of the muffins, placed to the left of a 2 cent coin (for comparison of vertical measurements, proportion, perspective, contrast, and chiaroscuro).

A photograph of my muffin

So. Well. I’m sure you can understand my sincerely felt disappointment and this Terrible Failing of mine.

Afterwards tried to bake some yeasted bread rolls. DISASTER. They didn’t rise, and the yeast didn’t get died in the oven, so they were all yeasty and unrisen. I should quip on the subject of premature ejaculations now, probably.

So yes, many other things were tried baked, and they all, more or less, failed miserably.

Not that I didn’t have fun, but yes. Still, I will persevere!

Probably, the oven was too hot, when attempting to rise yeasty things. As for the muffins, I cannot say. Did you confuse the two types of baking soda? (Bicarbonate of soda, and a proprietary mixture generally labeled ‘Baking powder’)

I know my potassium hydrogen tartrate from my sodium bicarbonate – what sort of person do you think I am?!

I had the rolls sitting on a plate (covered over) by a hottish radiator for about an hour and a half, but they didn’t puff up much at all.

    *sigh*
